Designing in Your Style: How to Be Authentic While Decorating.

Designing in Your Style: How to Be Authentic While Decorating.

For a long time, I thought I had to choose. Do I need to try to make my home look like a pottery barn magazine spread… Or do I want to make it look like me. And of course I am all about Designing in Your Style.

Either I designed things that felt like me creative, intuitive, expressive or I designed things that looked “professional.”

I believed professional meant muted colors.
Clean but boring.
Safe.
Something that didn’t quite feel like home.

And honestly? That belief kept me stuck.

Which if you have been following me for a while you know I believe your home should be your cozy place you never want to leave. So I knew when decorating my home, and updating for 2026 that meant I would choose things I was absolutely obsessed with.

If you’ve ever felt like your natural style is too much or not polished enough to be taken seriously, this is for you.

Authentic Design Is Not the Opposite of Professional

Let’s clear something up right now.

Professional does not mean boring as heckkkk.

Professional means:

  • Intentional
  • Consistent
  • Clear
  • Easy to understand
  • Easy to navigate

My favorite thing is when you walk into someone’s home and you can tell exactly how they are, what they like, what they are passionate about ALL BECAUSE their home looks like them.

Designing in Your Style should be fun!

Your Style Is the Brand (Not Something to Hide)

Here’s the truth most people won’t tell you:

Your style is the signal that attracts the right people.

The colors you’re drawn to.
The layouts you love.
The vibe you naturally create.

That’s not random, that’s who you are to your core.

When you try to design like everyone else, you dilute the very thing that makes your brand memorable. When you design like you, the right people feel it instantly.

The Secret to Making Your Style Look “High-End”

Here’s how to elevate your own style without losing yourself:

1. Limit Your Core Elements

Pick:

  • Only choose items that speak to your soul
  • A small, intentional color palette
  • A consistent layout style

In 2026 you can be expressive in every room you have.

2. Design With Purpose While Designing in Your Style

As I said above, your decorations should speak to your soul. Your home should look like you.

3. Repeat What Works

Repetition AGAIN & AGAIN!

Using the same colors, spacing, and visual patterns across your home. So your style fits together and really looks like you.

Consistency is what turns creativity into a brand.

If you only take one thing from this blog post let it be this!!!!

Designing in Your Style can be easy!

You don’t need to tone yourself down.
You need to own your style and love every part of your home.

Your style isn’t meant to be for anyone else but yourself!
